91 dead as powerful earthquake hits Indonesia
At least 91 people were killed when Indonesia’s resort island of Lombok was hit by a powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake on Sunday, triggering widespread panic as thousands fled their homes for emergency shelters as buildings collapsed.
The death toll is expected to rise with 209 injured and thousands of houses damaged, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency said in a statement on Monday.
Singapore Law and Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam, who was on the 10th floor of a hotel in the Lombok town of Mataram at the time of the quake, wrote on Facebook that his room shook violently and walls cracked.

Most of the victims were killed by falling rubble in northern and western parts of Lombok.
An initial tsunami warning of waves of up to half a metre was issued following the quake but later withdrawn.
Lombok was hit by another powerful 6.4 quake a week earlier on July 29, killing 17 people and injuring hundreds of people.
More than 100 aftershocks have rattled Lombok since the quake, which was so powerful it was felt on the neighbouring island of Bali.
“The night condition and some disconnected communication lines pose some challenges in the field. Death count is expected to increase still,” the disaster management agency said.

“We will evacuate people off of the three Gili islands. Some of them are hurt and are in shock,” Sidakarya said in the televised interview.
One person in Gili Air was killed, he said, but details about the victim is unknown yet.
Saffron Amis, a British student visiting the Gili Islands off the northwest coast of Lombok, told Reuters by text message that dozens of tourists were evacuated to a hill after the quake.
The quake struck Lombok in the early evening at a depth of 10 km or 6 miles.
Travellers at the international airports in Lombok and Bali were thrown into panic and there was minor damage to the buildings but operations were not disrupted, officials said.
The quake was felt for several seconds in Bali, where people ran out of houses, hotels and restaurants.
“All the hotel guests were running, so I did too. People filled the streets,” said Michelle Lindsay, an Australian tourist. “A lot of officials were urging people not to panic.”
Other witnesses said the initial quake grew in intensity over several seconds, rattling windows and doors, and there were many aftershocks.
UN concerned for students’ safety as safe-road protests simmer in Bangladesh
The United Nations has expressed concern for the safety of children and young people in the ongoing protests for safe roads in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh.
It has “urgently” called upon all parties to keep everyone – including children and young people – safe on the roads and safe from any kind of violence.
“Students and young people have a legitimate right to speak out on issues of concern to them including road safety issues and to have their opinion heard without the threat of violence,” it said in a statement on Sunday.
“It is a matter of deep concern that a number of young people taking part in demonstrations in the capital have been injured over the last few days. Many schools have been closed as a result of the protests, depriving children of learning opportunities,” it added. The statement quoted UN Resident Coordinator Mia Seppo as saying, “We are deeply concerned about the reports of violence and call on all for calm. The concerns expressed by youth about road safety are legitimate and a solution is needed for a mega city like Dhaka. A functioning public transport system should ensure the safety of all, including children, young girls and women.”
The UN has long campaigned for better road safety across the world and traffic accidents in Bangladesh are one of the major killers of young people, the world body said.
There are more than 20,000 road fatalities every year in Bangladesh, it added, citing a World Health Organization report.
The students in Bangladesh are protesting for justice and road safety measures after a bus crushed two of their peers to death and injured several others in Dhaka last Sunday.
The protesters clashed with the police, pro-government youths and transporters at different parts of the capital during the weeklong demonstrations.
Journalists covering the demonstrations have also been attacked and injured.

Chanel Lewis admits to killing Queens jogger Karina Vetrano in rage-filled attack; police say he had hatred for women.
She wasn’t being stalked or targeted. It was just that jogger Karina Vetrano was
a woman, and the man accused of killing her hated women.
Chanel Lewis was
filled with lethal rage when he grabbed Veteran as she went for a summer evening
run in Queens, according to authorities. He raped her and strangled the petite
runner, they said, and left her body in weeds.
And then he vanished for
six months.
Detectives had little to work with to find the man who
crossed Vetrano’s path. She scratched him and captured some of his DNA, but he
had no record so no match could be made. The randomness of the attack added to
the difficulty of solving the crime. It took months of searching the area and
records, a cop’s suspicions, to finally land Lewis.

“He gave a detailed
incriminating account of what happened — but he doesn’t really explain why it
happened. It was a very random thing. He just came up on her and acted out.
There wasn’t any conversation. It was a chance encounter. There was no reason to
believe he was stalking her. He just happened to come up on her. ”
Hours
after Lewis was arrested Saturday evening outside his home in East New york, a
profile began to emerge of one of the most wanted and unsuspecting men in the
city.

Tiny Device Allows You To Track Your Car Using Your Smart-phone
Have you ever lost your car on a parking lot? It happens. You park and go shopping. When you get back, you don't have a clue where your car is. Then you start roaming around clicking on the panic button on your car keys so the alarm goes off. It can be frustrating, especially on a hot, sunny day.
No, you don't need to install an expensive Gps system to keep track of your car. That's way too expensive. You would need to pay a monthly subscription fee just to use it. Don't we have enough bills to pay already?
But is there a way to track your vehicle without spending a fortune? Yes, now there is!
A California-based startup company was able to make this a reality. They created a tiny device that works with your smartphone, and it could be exactly what you're looking for!
What is it?
It's called TrackR. It is a state-of-the-art tracking device the size of a quarter. It's changing the way we keep track of the important things in our lives.
How does it Work?
It's easy! Install the free TrackR app on your smartphone, connect the app to your device and you're ready to go! Simply attach TrackR to whatever you want to keep tabs on. The entire process of setting it up only takes 5 minutes or less.
You can attach it to your keys, briefcase, wallet, your latest tech gadgets and anything else you don't want to lose. Then use the TrackR app to locate your missing item in seconds.
Forget expensive GPS systems or tracking services. Nobody wants to pay expensive monthly subscription fees. We understand how stressful these things can be, and this is the reason why TrackR was created. This device is your VIP when you need to take care of more important things in life.
Remember the car scenario above? If you have the TrackR, you can just hide it under your car's floor mat, in the trunk or in the glove compartment. Somewhere it won't be found if your car gets stolen.
If you forget where you parked your car, whip out your smartphone and open the TrackR app. Tap on the "lost item" icon on the screen and the app will tell you the exact coordinates of the last known location of the TrackR.
How much is it Going to Cost Me?
You're probably thinking that this device is very expensive... False! TrackR only costs $29! That's a small price to pay for peace of mind, isn't it?
Where can I buy TrackR?
You can buy it directly from the company's website. They ship worldwide and you'll receive your TrackR within a ~week.
What else can I do with TrackR?
As we said before, TrackR has unlimited possibilities. The device is small and unobtrusive enough that you can attach it to your pet. Put it on their collar, and the issue of searching for them as they scamper off to nearby places will be over! Attach it to your keys and wallet, and never waste a minute rummaging the whole house for it.
TrackR even comes with a double-sided adhesive so you can stick it to your laptop or under your bike seat. Track down and punish the thieves who steal your expensive things!
Attach it to everything that's important to you!
Step by step instructions on how to use Tracker
Now that you are aware of the potential of this curious device, all you need to do is to follow these 3 steps:
1. Get Tracker from the manufacturer website. You’ll get it delivered to your home in about 1 week.
2. Link Tracker with your Smartphone (iPhone or Android) and place it next to the object you don’t want to lose.
